Where we look, where we don't

One map per measure, one source per map. No aggregate index: you make the comparison.

Our coverage

Our coverage is still unbalanced, as we say on the About page: we are correcting it with the protocol explained in our Method.

Coming next: Displaced and refugees · Acute hunger (IPC 4–5) · Humanitarian severity · Violations against children · Attacks on health care · Aid workers killed · Journalists killed · Unmet aid (USD) · Legal qualification

Each bubble's area is proportional to its value. The scale applies only to the open tab: bubbles from different tabs cannot be compared. An empty dashed circle means data not available, not zero.

Why two sources give different numbers

ACLED counts all recorded political violence, including armed gangs and repression; UCDP counts only deaths in organised armed conflicts above a minimum threshold and attributes them event by event. That is why ACLED records far more deaths in Ecuador, Nigeria or Myanmar, while in Sudan UCDP attributes more. Both undercount where access is blocked, as in Gaza or Darfur: real figures may be higher.

Sources and method

Each tab uses a single external source with a public methodology; every value carries the date it refers to. Our methodological choices are explained in the Method page.
